Getting Married in 2017? Consider the Claddagh Ring

Are you getting married in 2017?

If you’re thinking of an engagement or wedding ring, investing in a timeless Claddagh ring could be one of the best decisions you ever make.

Here are the top 5 reasons to consider the Claddagh ring:

It’s an Irish Celebration of Love
The Irish Claddagh is the most evocative, wonderful symbol of love that there is. There is no single piece of jewelry that can compete with this beautiful gesture of love. And why is this? The message is simple. Embedded in to the design is a heart, to symbolize your own personal love story; then you have the hands to symbolize friendship surrounding the heart and of course the crown which represents the loyalty in a relationship.

The Message is Clear!
When you give the gift of a Claddagh Ring, the message is clear and unlike no other. There are many ways to wear the Claddagh ring and they straight away signal your status! When the Claddagh ring is worn on the right hand with the heart facing towards you, it means that you are in a relationship. If you are still single, the way to wear the Claddagh ring is on the right hand with the heart pointed out.

If you are married, the correct way to wear the Claddagh ring is on the left hand with the heart towards you. If you have received a Claddagh ring as an engagement ring, then you wear it with the heart pointed outwards (away from you) and also on the left hand to signify your status.

A Timeless Collection
While the Claddagh motif is unmistakable, there is a wonderfully wide range of settings and variations and embellishments and styles available and in addition to rings, there are also earrings and pendants available if you would like to make the gift extra special with some matching pieces or if you plan to build a collection for your loved one over time.

The Claddagh heart is available in gold or with the addition of jewels such as beautiful green emeralds or bright blue sapphires. Another novel idea is to include a birthstone.

The Choice of the Stars!
The Claddagh ring is hugely popular now worldwide and never goes out of fashion. It featured in the 1964 bond film, Goldfinger and achieved worldwide fame once again when seen in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and when Kanye West gifted one to Kim Kardashian on honeymoon in Ireland.

Faith Rings and a Fishing Village
While the Irish Claddagh originated in the Co. Galway fishing village of Claddagh, the history is said to go back even further. The Claddagh ring belongs to a widespread group of finger rings called ‘Fide Rings’ dating from the early Roman times. These rings were very popular in the Middle Ages across Europe. Early examples can be seen today in the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin. These faith rings can be identified as having the bezel cut or cast in the form of two clasped hands, symbolizing faith or “plighted troth”. The word Fide is Latin for ‘faith’.
