Claddagh Wedding Bands

The Claddagh ring bears three symbols which, in their combination, individuals and couples around the globe believe represents the highest priorities in love and marriage. Claddagh rings are given by parents, grandparents, friends and suitors. Depending on which hand they're worn, and which direction the symbols face, one can communicate his or her romantic availability.

Amomg the three distinctive symbols are a pair of hands. These hands are said to represent friendship. The hands are holding a heart, which symbolises love. Finally, atop the heart sits a crown, which represents loyalty. Friendship, love and loyalty: the bedrocks of a lasting, healthy relationship.

When the ring is worn on the right hand, with the heart facing the wearer and the crown toward the tip of the finger, from another's point of view the heart is "turned away." This sends a clear signal of unavailability. If the ring is pointed the other direction, it's a subtle way of expressing interest in being romantically approached. Worn on the left hand, with the heart facing outward is a sign that one is engaged, but not yet married. On the left hand, with the heart facing the wearer, one is married--or at least in a deeply committed relationship.
