1. Mussenden Temple, Co. Derry

Again this is not a widely-known spot, but Mussenden Temple in Co. Derry has become very popular in recent times. Set in to the Downmill Demesne near Castlerock in Co. Derry / Londonderry, the temple was built back in the 18th century and is a circular folly looking out over golden sands. The dramatic cliff edge walk can be completed with a visit to the Bushmills Inn for a drink or two or its an equally good spot for a romantic picnic.

2. The Beara Way, Co. Kerry

The Kerry Way is well known to walkers but the Beara Way is a little less well-known making it even more romantic as a quieter holiday spot with equally beautiful views and stopping off points. The entire way stretches over 120 miles and there is a huge variation from old bog roads to a rocky coastline with amazing flora and fauna. The walk is shared between Co. Clare and Co. Kerry and there are many architectural monuments along the way. If you want silence, nature and romance, this is the walk for you.

3. Powerscourt Waterfall, Co. Wicklow

Ireland’s highest waterfall, Powerscourt Waterfall, provides a wonderful backdrop for romance and there are many options for romantic walks through some of Ireland’s most beautiful park lands at the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. The trees are particularly spectacular here with Beech, Larch, Oak and Pine Trees that are hundreds of years old. A walk through the woodland pathways listening to the birdsong will definitely spark romance!

4. Kylemore Abbey, Co. Galway

Kylemore Abbey, set in to the hills in Co. Galway is an otherworldly setting and the old mountain trails around the estate have now been opened to walkers. There are mountain lakes and truly spectacular scenery and no matter what distances you like this is quite simply one of the most truly magical and romantic places to take a walk on the island of Ireland. The Victorian Walled Gardens are one of the highlights as is the beautiful Gothic Church.

5. Coumshingaun, Co. Waterford

Truly one of Ireland’s hidden treasures, Coumshingaun Lake in Co. Waterford is set in to the Comeragh Mountains. A very romantic option, this 7.5km walking route will lead you to one of the best examples of a corrie lake in Ireland. Corries were formed by the movement of glaciers during the ice-age.  There are stunning cliffs all around the lake and for the more adventurous, the highest point in the Comeragh mountains is also nearby with great views.
