Claddagh Ring - How to Wear this Irish Symbol of Love in 2019

Claddagh Ring

Worldwide A-list actor Colin Farrell has ensured that Ireland’s Claddagh ring remains firmly on the map in 2019 as he has been seen at red carpet premieres all over the world from Dublin to Japan wearing the classic Irish ring.

The star, who has taken on the lead role as former circus star Holt Farrier in the well-received remake of the Disney classic Dumbo, has given the Claddagh a style update for 2019 by wearing it on the little finger of his left hand, akin to a signet ring.

The world-famous Claddagh – a symbol of love, friendship and loyalty - has another interesting Disney connection in that there is actually a statue of Walt Disney in Disney Land wearing the Claddagh ring.

The Claddagh is regularly worn by stars from Jennifer Aniston to Julia Roberts. It’s also a popular Presidential favorite - former US President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie were gifted with a pair of Claddagh rings to honor Kennedy’s Irish roots and Ronald Reagan was also gifted a Claddagh ring from the people of Galway. Bill Clinton has also been seen wearing one.

The Claddagh ring has much meaning and importance attached to it and is known universally as an Irish symbol of love. It can be worn in many different ways however and is the perfect symbol to celebrate love, friendship or loyalty.

So how should you wear this Irish symbol of love and friendship in 2019? Choosing the little finger gives it an instant update but the secret of the Claddagh to those in the know has always been the hand that it is worn on and the position of the point of the heart. Here are four ways to choose from:

On the right hand with the point of the heart toward the fingertips: the wearer is single and may be looking for love.
On the right hand with the point of the heart toward the wrist: the wearer is in a relationship.
On the left hand with the point of the heart toward the fingertips: the wearer is engaged.
On the left hand with the point of the heart toward the wrist: the wearer is married.

The evergreen symbol of love, how you wear the Claddagh in 2019 is up to you!
