History of Ireland Ladies Torc Bangle
This hand-crafted jewelry portrays the History of Ireland in a series of historical panels evocative of the panels on the Celtic High Cross which were such a distinctive expression of Irish Christian art up to medieval times.

There are eleven main themes incorporated in to this bangle offering a synopsis of key points in the history of the country:

Circle of Life
With no beginning and no end, this Celtic swirl symbol represents the unwinding path we all tread through life.

Saint Patrick
Saint Patrick, Ireland's patron saint, completely transformed Irish history when he began his mission of converting Ireland to Christian religion early in the 5th century.

Round Towers
As the Irish people embraced Christianity, great monastic centers were established all over the country from the 6th century onwards. Each site centered around a Round Tower.

Norman Invasion
Norman, Flemish and Norman-Welsh invaders came to Ireland in the 12th century bringing their French language and customs.

Battle of the Boyne
The battle of the Boyne in 1690 resulted in a Protestant ascendancy in Ireland which would last for more than two centuries.

United Irishmen
The Society of United Irishmen, which was established in the 18th century in Ireland, sought parliamentary reform. The group then became  a republican organization that was responsible for the Irish rebellion of 1798 with the aim of ending British rule.

Irish Flag
Green, white and gold - The green of the Irish flag represents the Gaelic tradition of Ireland; the orange represents the supporters of William of Orange and the white represents the hope for peace between both communities.

Famine Ships
In the decades after the tragic Irish famine, Irish people were forced to emigrate, particularly to the USA and Canada and this forced emigration resulted in hostilities between Ireland and England who were blamed for this.

GPO
One of the iconic images from the Easter Rising of 1916 is the General Post Office in Dublin. The Republic of Ireland was proclaimed from this building and subsequently the War of Independence occurred, bringing about the setting up of the modern Irish State.

Partition
When the treaty of 1921 happened, ending the War of Independence, the 26 counties became ‘the Irish Free State’ and subsequently the Republic of Ireland, while the six counties of Ulster were separated from the rest of Ireland becoming ‘Northern Ireland’ – a province of the UK.

Famine
The aforementioned Irish potato famine of the 1840s is one of the seminal moments in Irish history and is commemorated on this bracelet.
