A traditional and beloved symbol of love, loyalty and friendship, the Claddagh design has a long history of myths and legends. Hailing originally from the fishing village of Claddagh in Ireland, the Claddagh ring design was reportedly an original symbol for the Fisher Kings. Another tale is that of the original designer Richard Joyce, who was enslaved and fashioned the ring during his time in captivity. On his return to Ireland he presented the ring to his sweetheart and married her.

The Claddagh is used as a way of showing others where your heart lies on your quest for love.

Facing outwards when worn on the right hand shows that you are single and looking for love.
Facing inwards on the same hand signifies that you are in a relationship or courting.
Worn on the left hand with the heart facing outwards is the sign of an engagement.
Worn on the same hand with the heart facing inwards is an indication that you are married.
